用英语应该如何表达“占上风”？

其实，占上风的地道表达就是“take the upper hand”

名词短语 the upper hand 用来描述一个人比他人占有更多优势，处于有力位置，从而占上风。在使用中，它通常与动词 “have、gain、give、get” 搭配，意思是 “取得优势，占据上风”。

例句

This new equipment will give me the upper hand.
这套新设备能给我带来优势。

The company gained the upper hand by buying its competitors.
那家公司通过收购竞争对手而获得了优势。

The home team gained the upper hand when an opposition player was sent off.
主场球队在一名客场球员被罚下后占据了绝对上风。

既然知道了占上风，那么处于劣势或处于下风，又应该如何表达呢？

upper 的反义词是 lower， 所以呢，the lower hand 可以用来表示劣势或不利地位，当然这时，就不能用take 或gain了，因为这两个单词又争取和获得的含义层面，通常，劣势是处于被动地位，所以用on 来表达，也就是：

on the lower hand

比如：

Women are the weaker sex and they are always on the lower hand.

妇女是弱势性别，她们经常处于不利地位。

表示不利地位其实还有一些表达，比如 at the disadvantage , underdog(处于不利地位的人)， unfavorable condition , weak 等等。
